
Today we live in extremely violent times, a reality that is often attributed to religious extremism. But can moderates in religion really hide behind above reality and consider themselves not at fault? I don’t think so. The truth is that religion can only thrive in an uneducated society where ignorance and emotional thinking is the norm, and therefore it becomes necessary for religion to promote such an attitude. Previous efforts from religious leaders to keep society ignorant takes many forms; Pietism, Pragmatism, Romanticism, Irrationalism, etc. In fact, they were so successful in their efforts there’s hardly a modern society on earth which is known more for their rational thinking rather than their emotional thinking. However, a society ruled by emotion and passion is an unstable society, a violent society.
